International Baccalaureate at Friends'

Clemes students

The Friends' School is proud to offer students in Years 11 and 12 the opportunity to study for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The focus on global knowledge and understanding and the emphasis on the education of the whole person to be found in the International Baccalaureate Program fit well with the Purpose and Concerns of The Friends' School. Staff and students now have access to the world-wide family of teachers and students at IB schools around the globe.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma is a broad yet rigorous two year international academic curriculum for university entrance. It is recognised by universities in over 100 countries (including all Australian tertiary institutions) and taught in more than 800 schools in nearly 100 countries. More than 40 schools in Australia now offer the IB.

At Friends', we are offering a wide range of subjects within the IB, so that each student will be able to find a course to suit his or her talents and aspirations. In addition, for students uncertain if the IB is suited to them, an IB/TCE preparatory pathway is offered in Year 11 to allow the option to gain either qualification in Year 12.

Morris - Friends' Primary Years runs the IB Primary Years Program from Kindergarten to Year 6. For further information on PYP contact: Deputy Teaching and Learning Gillian Edmiston (+613) 03 6210 2228.

The International Baccalaureate Organisation has its administrative headquarters in Geneva. An International Body of Examiners, centred in Cardiff and representing many countries and cultural traditions, is responsible for assessment of the Diploma.
